The building was formerly the village poor-house, and subsequently became the village school, which closed in 1970. The hall was refurbished and redecorated throughout in 2019, thanks to donations and other contributions from villagers, and grants received from the National Lottery Community Fund and the St John's Foundation.
Each year the Village Hall Committee organises a May Day Fair, which is the principal fund-raising event for the maintenance and upkeep of the hall. A Village Social takes place in Jan/Feb each year.
The Hall is also in frequent use for Parish Council meetings, birthday parties, wedding receptions and other celebrations, the occasional cricket club pantomime, quizzes, art exhibitions and other assorted events.
Priston also has a marquee available for hiring to Priston villagers and village organisations. Size: 10x4 Metres. Rates are as follows: Priston - £35 (In VH Car Park - £50) (Non villagers in VH Car Park £100).

Priston Festival has a number of gazebos that can be hired to make extra room and cover outside in the village hall carpark. These are 3x6m; 3x4.5m (blue); and 3x3m (white). The largest fits neatly outside the hall, filling the space between the back kitchen door, and back door of the hall, making, in effect an extra room. Price for gazebos is £30 each.
