Accessibility Statement for The Priston Web

Introduction

This accessibility statement applies to The Priston Web (www.priston.org.uk), the website owned and operated by Priston Parish Council,

We want as many people as possible to be able to use the website. For example this means you should be able to

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts;
  • zoom in at least up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen;
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard;
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software;
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader;
  • use the website with devices with a variety of screen sizes, including desktp and laptop computers, tablets and mobile phones.

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

This website has been checked for accessibility on the basis of the Basic Checks contained within the Govenment guidance Doing a basic accessibility check if you cannot do a detailed one as published in August 2019.

This followed a decision by Priston Parish Council in November 2019 that a Detailed Check against WCAG 2.1 would represent a "disproportionate burden" in terms of the Parish Council's size and resources, and the likely cost and impact on the organisation that a Detailed Check would entail set against the benefit which would be obtained for disabled users. This decision also took into account the fact that the Parish Council does not provide services specifically aimed at people likely to have a disability, and that information could be provided in different forms if specifically requested by any disabled users.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • some portions of the website produced by and/or hosted on behalf of third-party organisations may not be fully accessible - this specifically applies to material hosted on behalf of The Priston Festival and The Ring of Bells PH;
  • older PDF documents, and those produced by or hosted on behalf of community organisations may not be fully accessible to screen reader software;
  • some current Parish Council PDF documents, which are scanned documents or based on supplied proformas, may not be accessible to screen reader software;
  • some elements of the website are implemented using facilities provided by third-parties, such as Google, Facebook and Youtube. In these cases accessibility is dependent on the facilities provided by these third parties;
  • in isolated cases, some pages are not fully accessible with very small screen sizes so for instance may need to be viewed in landscape rather than portrait mode when using mobile phones.
